A study conducted by Tove Malmqvist and Johanna Brismark in collaboration with KTH Live-In Lab, Co-Kitchen, and Max4lax explores the potential embodied carbon savings associated with co-living design.

The paper ”Embodied carbon savings of co-living and implications for metrics” uses two Swedish studies to explore the potential embodied carbon carbon savings associated with co-living designs, comparing them to traditional apartment designs. The studies show that significant embodied carbon savings can be realised through among other things the capacity to use indoor space more efficiently. Furthermore, the paper demonstrates how a reevaluation of carbon and space metrics can aid the building sector in achieving emission targets.
